"Children are the future , educating them is securing the future"

Journey so far...

From 2016 to 2028, we have reached over 1500 direct and over 10,000 indirect beneficiaries and directly impacted many through school supplies, advocacy, and partnership with local leaders.

The Educational Crisis in Nigeria

The situation surrounding education in Nigeria is dire. According to recent statistics:

  • 13.2 million children are currently out of school in Nigeria, making it one of the countries with the highest number of out-of-school children globally (UNICEF, 2023).
  • 60% of children in Nigeria’s rural areas do not have access to the required materials such as textbooks, writing materials, or uniforms, which hinders their ability to attend school (UNESCO, 2023).
  • Many children, especially girls, are sent to work on farms to support their family’s income or stay home to care for siblings, preventing them from attending school altogether (World Bank, 2022).
  • Additionally, youth involvement in crime, militancy, and street living remains a significant concern. Without access to education, many young people turn to illicit activities as a means of survival.

Our Approach and Achievements

The Education Cannot Wait Campaign tackles these challenges through a multi-pronged approach that addresses the root causes of educational disparity in rural Nigeria.

Awareness and Advocacy

From radio and TV advocacy, to town hall meetings with parents, teachers, and community leaders, we have worked tirelessly to raise awareness about the importance of education, particularly for girls and children from disadvantaged homes. Our outreach efforts have helped spark conversations about the value of education across Delta State, reaching over 10,000 individuals through various media channels.

Direct Support for Children

We have distributed 1,500 sets of school uniforms, shoes, and accessories to children from low-income households, removing a critical barrier that prevented them from attending school. This initiative ensures that these children have the necessary attire to learn, without shame or discomfort.

Partnership with Local Leaders

Our work has been made possible through partnerships with local kings, chiefs, and community members, who have played a pivotal role in promoting education in their communities. With their support, we have successfully engaged and mobilized local populations in Sapele, Oton, Amukpe, Irodo, and Ajawini, among others, to make education a priority.

Infrastructure Support for Rural Schools

In addition to direct aid for children, we have contributed to the improvement of educational infrastructure. Our campaign has equipped schools with whiteboards, writing materials, and sanitary solutions, as well as basic renovations to improve the learning environment. These efforts provide teachers with the tools they need to teach effectively, and students with a conducive space to learn.

Impact of Our Work

Through our efforts, we have made significant strides in improving access to education in rural Delta State. Some of our major achievements include:

  • Providing uniforms, shoes, and school supplies to over 1,500 children in need.
  • Reaching over 10,000 individuals through our radio and TV advocacy programs.
  • Partnering with local leaders to mobilize communities in support of education.
  • Directly improving the infrastructure of rural schools, ensuring a better learning environment for students.

Looking Ahead

While we have made tremendous progress, the work is far from over. The number of out-of-school children in Nigeria remains staggering, and rural communities still face numerous challenges in ensuring that their children have access to education. Our future goals include:

  • Expanding our outreach to more communities across Delta State and Nigeria.
  • Continuing to work with local governments to advocate for policies that support education in rural areas.
  • Improving infrastructure in schools by providing more resources and conducting renovations.
  • Expanding the provision of meals and sanitary solutions in schools to ensure a holistic approach to children’s education and well-being.
