The Igbodo Development Library and Book Club Project (2018)
As part of the We Lead Mentorship Program, the Igbodo Development Library was established in 2018 to help revitalize the reading culture within the community. This fully-equipped library aims to foster learning and curiosity among students, creating an accessible resource for academic and personal growth.
Additionally, the Book Club Project was introduced to further engage young people, particularly students within the ages of 13-20 years, in developing leadership qualities. The book club serves as a platform for students to engage in meaningful discussions, broaden their perspectives, and develop critical thinking skills. This initiative promotes lifelong learning and helps youth become informed, well-rounded individuals ready to take on leadership roles in society.
These two initiatives, both supported by Union Bank, work in tandem to create a culture of mentorship and education in Igbodo. They provide the necessary tools for young people to not only excel academically but also grow as responsible leaders.
Partnership with Union Bank
The We Lead Mentorship Program and the Igbodo Development Library/Book Club Project were both launched in partnership with Union Bank, whose support was crucial in providing the resources and infrastructure needed to ensure the success of these initiatives. Union Bank’s commitment to supporting youth empowerment and leadership development continues to play a significant role in shaping the future of young people in Igbodo and beyond.
Impact of the Program
Since its inception in 2018, the We Lead Mentorship Program has made a significant impact on the youth of Igbodo. The program has supported over 200 children, empowering them with leadership skills, motivation, and the tools to become active contributors to their community’s development. Through mentorship, young people have been equipped to challenge societal norms, take on leadership roles, and become change-makers in Igbodo.
Additionally, the Igbodo Development Library, which is the first of its kind in the community, has become a cornerstone of youth empowerment. The library is home to self-development books, educational games, and serves as a safe space where young people can gather to learn and be inspired. It provides the community with access to resources that were previously unavailable, offering youth the opportunity to engage in personal growth and academic excellence.
The library, alongside the mentorship program, plays a vital role in providing the Igbodo community’s youth with the opportunity to thrive in a nurturing, resourceful environment, encouraging them to pursue their dreams and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Igbodo and beyond.
Looking Ahead: Empowering the Future
As the We Lead Mentorship Program continues to grow, it remains committed to supporting the youth of Igbodo and surrounding communities, helping them develop into the leaders of tomorrow. With the ongoing support of Union Bank, the program is poised to expand, offering more opportunities for young people to become equipped for leadership roles in society.
