Transforming Classrooms in Edo State: RUDERF’s Education without Borders: Empowering Edo State Educators to Bridge the Digital Divide

Transforming Classrooms in Edo State: Rural Development and Reformation Foundation’s Education Without Borders: Empowering Edo State Educators to Bridge the Digital Divide:

In 2024, the Rural Development and Reformation Foundation (RUDERF), with the support of the TY Danjuma Foundation, expanded its transformative “Education Without Borders” (EWB) initiative to Edo State. Building upon previous successes, this phase focused on empowering educators to effectively utilize the EdoBEST tablets, addressing the challenge of limited digital skills among teachers.

On June 22, 2024, in collaboration with the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (EDO SUBEB), RUDERF conducted a comprehensive training program in Benin City. This session equipped over 150 teachers from 92 primary schools across seven Local Government Areas in the Edo South Senatorial District and Esan Southwest with the skills to maximize the potential of the EdoBEST tablets. The training emphasized content delivery, development and use of subject-specific teaching aids, and effective pedagogical strategies.

A key component of the training was guiding educators on implementing scripted lessons more effectively. By enhancing their digital competencies, teachers are now better prepared to create engaging classrooms and improve learning outcomes. This initiative has already begun to yield positive results, with more than 9,000 children in Edo State expected to benefit from these modern teaching techniques.

The TY Danjuma Foundation’s unwavering support has been instrumental in enabling RUDERF to roll out this initiative across Edo State. As the EWB project progresses, RUDERF is committed to scaling up its training initiatives, reaching more schools and educators, and ensuring that the benefits of activity-based learning are felt throughout the state. This includes rigorous monitoring and evaluation of the long-term impact on educational outcomes, as well as advocating for policy changes that support continued innovation and resource accessibility.

The EWB project is more than just a short-term educational intervention; it’s a catalyst for long-term change in Edo State’s education system. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement and inclusive education practices, RUDERF is paving the way for a brighter future for all students in the state.

With the ongoing support of the TY Danjuma Foundation, RUDERF is confident that the EWB project will continue to make a significant impact on the educational landscape of Edo State and beyond, setting a new standard for excellence in education in Nigeria.
